Helping Those Who Help Others: What Every First Responder Needs to Know About Job-Related Trauma

Presented by Rogers Behavioral Health; Every day first responders encounter stressful events potentially leaving them vulnerable to post traumatic stress. This presentation will assist with understanding Post Traumatic Stress disorder specific to the first responder population. We will explore the symptoms of post-traumatic stress, the impact it has on the individual (relationships and work), as well as co-occurring issues. In addition, topics included will address the stigmas of mental health, barriers to seeking help within the first responder community and recommendations on how to support mental wellbeing within departments.

Allison Lancione is a Clinical Supervisor at Rogers Behavioral Health in Oconomowoc, WI. Prior to working as a Clinical Supervisor, she worked as a Licensed Professional Counselor in the Adult Trauma Recovery program at Rogers Behavioral Health. Allison holds a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.  In addition to her clinical role with Rogers Behavioral Health, she also serves as the mental health clinician for the Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin, Membership Assistance Program (MAP).
