Empathy in EMS

WEMSA's own Conference & Education Director, Amanda Bates teams up with the incredible Chris Ackley to deliver one of the most important presentations at the conference - Maintaining Empathy in EMS (it is not always about Paramedic level skills) and not letting burnout get the best of you, preventing you from being the Firefighter you sent out to be. Take your power back! Join them for an eye opening, engaging, heartfelt exploration of how choices made effect yourself and others in the EMS/Fire Service.

She coordinates and organizes the annual Conference, manage the Conference Committee, serve as Editor of the Association's magazine: EMS Professionals. She staff's the Education Committee, assist with outreach initiatives, and sit on multiple State Working Groups; including Sudden Cardiac Arrest, Community EMS, and the Dispatcher Assisted CPR Program. She is honored to serve on the UW OTD Board as a representative of EMS in Wisconsin and as a member of the Education and Training Committee for the EMS Advisory Board. She currently runs with the City of Burlington as a Paramedic Firefighter, an educator for the Coverdell Stroke Program, and Trainer for the Dispatch Assisted CPR Program.

"I fight daily to make forward progress for sustainable careers in EMS and Fire Suppression for our future heroes and leaders. I strive to assure that EMS practice catches up to science, and want a 'Just Culture' to become the norm. Most of all I want my daughter to know that her mom fought to make a difference."
