When the MI Doesn't Meet STEMI Criteria and Things That Make the QRS Wide

This talk will focus on EKG examples which do not meet traditional STEMI criteria but still represent coronary artery occlusion. We will introduce the term Occlusion Myocardial Infarction (OMI) as coined by Drs. Meyers, Smith and Weingart. The term is an effort to move focus from STEMI criteria to other, more reliable criteria for detecting coronary artery occlusion. Explore the wild world of EKG interpretation, and the mysteries of wide and widening QRS waveforms. DKA Resuscitation

This talk will review the pathophysiology of DKA including causes of acidosis and electrolyte disorders, including potassium derangements. I will discuss the importance of initiating early insulin therapy as the best treatment for DKA is lowering blood glucose. In addition, I’ll talk about additional therapies directed at addressing fluid deficits, acidosis, and electrolyte abnormalities. This will include the reasons for choosing lactated ringers over normal saline,

the debate over bicarbonate, and how best to manage respiratory and airway issues.
