Detecting Child Abuse

This is a presentation about a local 3-year-old that died at the hands of her father and step mother’s abuse and neglect. Catherine DePoole was the primary care paramedic for Audryna and will present her case from beginning to end with an emphasis on abuse/neglect reporting for EMS. Also speaking will be Audryna’s birth mother, her focus will be to encourage EMS and first responders to report signs of abuse and neglect.

Catherine is a Critical Care Paramedic who calls La Crosse Wisconsin home, along with her husband and two children. She served five years on an ambulance service that yielded around 70,000 call per year and another five years based in an emergency room. The change to go to the ER happened after a particularly painful pediatric call which she will be sharing as a case study.
