Dan has been a full-time employee with North Shore Fire/Rescue since 2005; following time as a high school cadet/Explorer and Paid-on-call firefighter beginning in 1998.  Earlier this year, he was promoted to the Rank of Fire Captain and currently holds the title as EMS Manager/Community Relation and Public Information Officer for his department. 
 

He is licensed as a Registered Nurse, Nationally Registered Paramedic, State of Wisconsin EMS Instructor II, and has completed nationally recognized Community Paramedic training through the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee College of Nursing.  In addition, Dan holds and Associate Degree in Nursing from Cardinal Stritch University and a Bachelor’s Degree in EMS Administration from Columbia Southern University.
 

His current responsibilities within NSFR include significant work Community Risk Reduction and proactive community training.  Dan currently oversees the department’s community CPR initiatives, car seat safety program, and various other community education and outreach offerings. 
 

Dan has worked closely with various community partners, including Project ADAM, which is based out of Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin; and was founded in 1999, following the sudden and unexpected death of Adam Lemel, a classmate of Dan’s at Whitefish Bay High School, to improve bystander CPR rates and cardiac arrest survivability.   Through this partnership, he has assisted with the development of Emergency Response Plans and provided bystander CPR and AED training for schools and other community organization to ensure that they have a plan in place when the “unexpected” strikes.
