Pediatric Assessment

In this didactic presentation, we will learn how to approach children of all ages in a way that fosters trust and facilitates evaluation of any medical needs.

Respiratory Assessment

In this didactic presentation, we will learn basic pathophysiology of common pediatric respiratory illnesses that result in respiratory distress. We will also learn to apply the pediatric assessment triangle for quick evaluation as well as more comprehensive clinical evaluation methods. We will learn diagnosis driven emergency management using case-based scenarios.

Pediatric Airway Lab

During this hands-on skills session, we will learn the unique features of the pediatric airway and learn basic airway management, supraglottic airway device insertion, endotracheal intubation, use of video laryngoscopy and difficult airway management.

Special Needs Pediatric Patients

In this didactic session, we will learn how to provide effective and safe emergency medical care for children with special health care needs, Autism Spectrum Disorder and children who are dependent on technology. We will also learn how caregivers and parents can be of a resource for pre-hospital care, and we will discuss safe transport methods.

Pediatric Trauma Hot Topics

This session will provide a current overview of relevant trauma-related literature, as it pertains to pre-hospital care for injured children. With injury being the leading cause of death in children, this topic is of utmost importance for all prehospital providers.

Pediatric Procedural Skills Lab

During this hands-on skills session, we will learn about and practice intraosseous needle placement, intramuscular epinephrine administration, effective CPR, quality bag vale mask ventilation and safe transport of pediatric patients

DR. LORIN BROWNE

Dr. Browne is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine at Medical College of Wisconsin, Pediatric Medical Director for Milwaukee County Office of Emergency Management EMS and co-chairs WI EMS for Children. Browne’s research interests include prehospital pediatric pain assessment and treatment, age-appropriate trauma care, and pediatric disaster medicine.

BEN EITHUN

Ben Eithun has over 14 years of emergency medicine experience and is the UW Health Pediatric Trauma Program Manager and a PICU nurse practitioner at Children’s Hospital of  Philadelphia. Eithun serves on the WI EMS for Children advisory committee and travels the state to provide pre-hospital pediatric education and outreach.

DR. MICHAEL KIM

Dr. Kim is the Pediatric Medical Director for the Dane County Consortium and co-chairs WI EMS for Children. He has provided educational presentations throughout the state for all levels of EMS providers on topics including trauma, seizure, respiratory, pain management, anaphylaxis, cardiac arrest and many more.

MATT PINSONEAULT

Matt Pinsoneault is the EMS Quality Improvement Specialist for Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and serves as an Assistant Chief with the Tess Corners Fire Department. Pinsoneault serves on the WI EMS for Children advisory committee as an EMS representative and travels the state to provide pediatric education and outreach for pre-hospital providers.

JASON SELWITSCHKA

Jason Selwitschka has 27 years of EMS experience. Selwitschka’s current roles include; CCP/EMS Coordinator at ThedaCare - Neenah, Town of Oshkosh Volunteer Firefighter/EMR and Fox Valley Region Trauma Advisory Council Coordinator.  Selwitschka serves on the WI EMS for Children advisory committee and travels Wisconsin to provide pediatric education and outreach.
