Curriculum Design for EMS Instructors

EMS educators routinely begin as subject matter experts who must learn how to teach. One of the most important components of being a professional educator is understanding how to develop educational offerings using sound andragogical principles. This session will provide EMS educators with the basics of curriculum design in a format designed specifically for those within EMS. Attendees will learn about program outcomes, course competencies, learning objectives, cognitive domain verbs, learning activities, assessments (formative and summative), and incorporating the learning cycle within curriculum design.

Building and Delivering Online Content

Online learning is very different from traditional face-to-face classroom instruction. While online learning can provide busy adult students with much-needed flexibility, developing an engaging online course atmosphere while also ensuring academic integrity can be a challenge. This session will provide EMS educators with ideas on how to build engaging content for use in an online course. Attendees will learn about Quality Matters, curriculum design aspects related to online courses, legalities related to online course delivery, accessibility considerations, competency-based delivery, academic integrity tools, and online assessment strategies.
